Big Book

As we begun week 5, it was Miss Ewarts birthday so the girls in room 11 decided to surprise her by taking over the big book. All those weeks of observing and participating in the big book reading session paid off and the girls did an amazing job.

Persuasive Writing

Over the past few weeks, students in room 10 have been learning about persuasive writing. We have looked at many different techniques used by people trying to persuade in both written form and in advertising. The students have really embraced this topic and have produced some really good arguments. Below are some examples from the debate about fast food or the ever topical Donald Trump. ENJOY!!

Take away food

Only a fool would think that fast food is healthy. Mcdonald's has lots of fat in it and gloton it is not healthy.KFC’s batter on there chicken has fat and it is not healthy . but it is delicious . If you do not like take away food you are a sad person . if you have not tried takeaway food you have not lived a life . a lot of people like to eat take away food but it has lots & lots of fat in it i’m trying to tell you it’s not healthy. It is a sort of food you do not eat every day.

Most people would agree that Donald Trump is a bad prescient because he’s ethusiast he’s also building a wall between Mexico and Amecia.He disrespect’s woman aswell as children.Only a fool would think that Donald Trump is a great prescient.When people were voting he said some disrespectful things.He lies to Amecians and say lets make Amecia great again but all he’s doing is making Amecia bad!

Most people would agree that Donald Trump is a good president, but we don’t. Are we expected to believe that Donald Trump is good. Here are some reasons why Donald trump is bad news.                                                                 Firstly, he hates children. In one of his meetings a baby cried but he said “Oh it’s ok I love children”. But when the baby left he was like “I hate children”. He has kids, he probably hates them.                                                                       Secondly, Donald Trump is really obnoxious to women. I heard that he called a pregnant women pudgy. Donald trump is flirting with celebrities. He even flirted with Hillary Clinton. We can see from the evidence that Donald Trump is a bad president.

Cross Country Pt1

A big congratulations to all those students who participated in the middle/junior cross country on Wednesday. It was fantastic to see so many people running their hardest and all the families that came out to support them. Students should feel very proud.

Digital learning

Today a group of students needed a little bit more help working out fractions of a number. Even though the teacher had explained and shown us how we still didn't get it so ... along came Mr Youtube and you know what, we understand now!

Youthtown

Last weeks Youthtown had to be in the hall as it was raining which meant we had a shorter session 😓😒
On the plus side we got both instructors to ourselves and there was even a new one so that makes 3, how cool. We got to do some gymnastics. Teddy bear roll and beanbag tag.

Team Singing

With it being a Friday, we had a impromptu team get together to remind the students about the school expectations and to go over some things for the coming week.
Lucky for us though Mrs Ridpath was in room 9a and we got to end the day with some singing. It was so cool !

Cross country - new date

Dear Parents/Caregivers

School Cross Country for Year 0-4 will be held at Arthur Adcock Memorial Reserve on Wednesday 25th May race times as follows:

1:45pm - Year 4 race 1 lap

1:55pm - Year 3 race 1 lap

2:05pm - Year 2 race 1/2 lap

2:10pm - Year 0/1 race 1/2 lap

As it is a House competition students will be able to wear mufti in their house colours only. 

This is always a fantastic event and we strongly encourage parents to come along and support their children.

Cross Country

Greeting whanau,

At this stage our school cross country is on tomorrow.  The race times are in the newsletter, which is available on our website.  Our students can wear their House colours only, or school uniform.  It is not a mufti day and please remember to wear running shoes.

An email/text will be sent out by 11am if we need to postpone due to the weather.

Check-In week

This week we are checking-in with our tamariki about where they are at with their learning. Each day this week your child will bring home a poem instead of a reading book as teachers are using reading group times to work with individuals.

We look forward to reporting to you all the wonderful things your tamariki are doing later in the term

Cross country

Kia Ora,

Cross country is coming up this Wednesday (postponement day Friday).

We will be having an early lunch on this day from 12 - 12:45.

The middle team will be walking to Adcock Reserve together at 1:30.

Please make sure that your children are wearing good running shoes and warm clothing on this day - the weather forecast isn't looking great!

We would to see you there to support your tamariki!

Digital Learning - Maths

Room 10 have started using a digital platform to help with our learning. With a new topic in maths (fractions, decimals & percentages 😠😭) we looked at some clips online which helped us to understand what a fraction is and more videos that will back up what Mr Morell is trying to teach us.
We have also started using e-ako in class and the BEST part is that we can use it at home as well. This is a great way for us to practice what we have been learning in class and to help us with out basic facts.

Digital Learning

Room 10 have started using a digital platform to help with our learning. 

In writing we have started persuasive. We have started by looking at advertisement and the strategies these ad people use to persuade us! We have also learnt some cool new words as well to go with this.
Pathos - all about emotions.
Ethos - all about believing and trusting the author.
Kairos - convincing the audience that this issue is so important they must act NOW!
Logos - all about facts, numbers and information.
After we studied a series of ads online and in the newspaper we were able to start creating our own. They turned out AWESOME!!

Term 2 Week 2 Assembly

With Mr T, Mrs Sweney AND Mrs H away. It was upto Mr Morell to run assembly and hand out the certificates to the out standing students in the middle team. A big congratulations to Jack & Charlise on their awesome efforts.

Out with the wha

Today I will show you what the wha is like outdoors.We can trust the wha children that's the reason that their wha how the stages work is the kids start at Rua and then work their way up and then they could get to the highest staged witch is Rima.Enough blabber lets get on with the photos.

Cross Country

One of the major events happening this term is Cross Country !! Please note this is a compulsory aspect of the NZC and all students are to participate. With this in mind Rooms 10&11 have been practicing hard and are really enjoying the challenge cross country presents. Below are some pictures of use training hard.
